Literature Text

Like the glowing, dying ashes from a lit cigarette
Like the empty, stained cup from your too cheap coffee
Like the crumpled wrapper that once separated you from your favorite treat
I matter not
Just a means to an end
Littering a dirty, city street

I was never worth more than trash
In your fiery, glowing eyes
Even though, at one point,
I was what kept you alive

Broke me
Used me
Then pushed me to the side
I was never worth more than trash
In your fiery, glowing eyes

Like the gum under a park bench
Like yesterday's newspaper
Like an empty soda bottle that once contained your preferred drink
I don't mean a thing
Just a meaningless container
Tossed aside on the corner of a busy, city street

I was never worth more than trash
In your fiery, glowing eyes
Even though, at one point,
I was what kept you alive

Broke me
Used me
Then pushed me to the side
I was never worth more than trash
In your fiery, glowing eyes

You said that I meant the world to you
You said I was your one and only
Then you left me confused
Lying here, broken and lonely

And now, I'm lost
And now, I'm afraid
And now I know my life
Won't ever be the same

I was never worth more than trash
In your fiery, glowing eyes
Even though, at one point,
I was what kept you alive

Broke me
Used me
Then pushed me to the side
I was never worth more than trash
In your fiery, glowing eyes

I was never more than trash
In your fiery, glowing eyes
